Halo Infinite will premier during Microsoft's Xbox Series X gameplay event

Halo Infinite hype is building up (Picture: 343 Industries)

Halo Infinite is finally going to be fully revealed during Xbox's huge gameplay event this week.

Teasers are being thrown out by the official Xbox and Halo Twitter accounts, which aren't showing much but are definitely generating hefty levels of hype.

The first teaser from Xbox shows us the number 117 displayed on some armour.

117, of course, is the number assigned to Master Chief, John-117, who is the protagonist in the Halo games for the most part.

One of the biggest problems modern Halo games have suffered from is taking the perspective mostly away from Master Chief, everyone's favourite alien-killing Spartan, in favour of other supporting characters such as Locke who was introduced in Halo 5.

Developer 343 Industries has confirmed that Halo Infinite will finally place Master Chief back on centre stage.

Microsoft's Xbox Series X gameplay event — which is going to show off first-party titles coming to Xbox One and the Series X — will be taking place on July 23, at 5pm BST.

This broadcast will give us our biggest look yet at Halo Infinite, exploring gameplay and the main campaign, so we expect a lot of juicy details to come from this.

The event itself will be focused entirely around gameplay and probably won't be giving us a full release date, which has stood firm at "Holiday 2020" every time Microsoft has mentioned it.

In a recent update about the future of gaming on Xbox, Microsoft boss Phill Spencer said that there wouldn't be any first-party exclusives coming to the Xbox Series X for a "couple of years" after launch.

That is to say, Xbox Series X games will also mostly be coming to Xbox One, with the idea being that you don't need to buy a console just to experience all the new games on offer.

Explaining this move, Spencer said in a blog post: "We want every Xbox player to play all the new games from Xbox Game Studios. That’s why Xbox Game Studios titles we release in the next couple of years — like Halo Infinite — will be available and play great on Xbox Series X and Xbox One".
