Halo Infinite battle pass progression is getting a big boost

Since its launch, one of the biggest complaints about the multiplayer portion of Halo Infinite has been about its slow progression. Players are not given extra XP for performance and once they’ve ticked off the battle pass challenges, they’re rewarded a measly 50XP per match. It takes around 20 matches to level up this way.

Developer 343 Industries is rolling out an update to address this, with more tweaks to come in the future. The first big change will see players rewarded more for their initial few matches, encouraging daily play. Here’s how per-match XP will look after the update:

  • 1st game – 300XP
  • 2nd game – 200XP
  • 3rd game – 200XP
  • 4th game – 100XP
  • 5th game – 100XP
  • 6th game – 100XP
  • 7th+ games – 50XP

The update will land over the next 24 hours.

Hopefully, this should be more of an incentive to return to Halo each day, even if you’ve completed your weekly battle pass challenges.

Outside of this, the game has also been criticized for its lack of cosmetic items in the free version of the battle pass. If you want your space dude to look cool, you currently have to cough up some money for the seasonal rewards.

Despite these teething issues, it’s hard not to love Halo Infinite’s core combat. It’s methodical, tense and team-focused – a refreshing change of pace in a world filled with drab military shooters.

If you’re looking to dominate the opposition online, here’s how to get Halo Infinite’s multiplayer medals, as well as what they all mean. If single-player is more your thing, here’s when Halo Infinite’s campaign unlocks
