PC players of "Halo: Campaign Evolved" now have a way to access a feature that appears to be unavailable in the game's standard PC version. While players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox can enjoy local split-screen co-op, PC users have seemingly been left without the classic multiplayer option.
A new community-made mod, however, aims to change that.
'Halo: Campaign Evolved' PC Split-Screen Mod Has Several Limitations
The "Halo: Campaign Evolved" split-screen co-op mod was uploaded to Nexus Mods by creator Jpurd. Based on the mod's description, it does not introduce an entirely new multiplayer system. Instead, it unlocks local split-screen functionality that was reportedly already present within the game's files.
For longtime "Halo" fans, the mod could help bring the PC experience closer to the franchise's console roots. Local co-op has been a defining part of "Halo" for years, allowing friends and family to experience the campaign together on the same screen.
Although the mod restores local multiplayer functionality, the current version comes with several restrictions.
The "Halo: Campaign Evolved" PC mod reportedly supports only two players through split-screen. This is notable because the game itself supports campaign co-op for up to four players, meaning the mod does not currently provide access to the full co-op capacity.
Players also need to use controllers for the split-screen feature to work properly. Those hoping to combine keyboard-and-mouse controls with a controller may therefore be unable to use the mod in their preferred setup.
Platform compatibility is another potential limitation. The mod may currently work only with the Steam version of "Campaign Evolved." Players using PC Game Pass or the Microsoft Store version may find that the mod is incompatible with their copy of the game.
'Halo: Campaign Evolved' Launch Experiences Early Multiplayer Issues
The split-screen situation is not the only multiplayer-related issue surrounding the game's release.
Last week, some Xbox players who purchased early access reportedly encountered problems when attempting to play with friends on PC and PlayStation 5 before the official launch.
According to GameSpot, there was also confusion over whether PlayStation Plus was required for local co-op. Some players initially believed that an active PS Plus subscription was necessary to access split-screen multiplayer. That concern, however, was later shown to be unfounded.

While attention remains focused on "Halo: Campaign Evolved," speculation about the franchise's future has already begun.
The game's secret ending has reportedly fueled theories that a "Halo 2" remake could eventually follow. If those rumors prove accurate, the next project could potentially build on the foundation established by "Campaign Evolved" and bring another classic entry to modern platforms.
