Halloween revellers enjoy last Saturday night out ahead of coronavirus lockdown

Revellers dressed up to celebrate Halloween and enjoy their final Saturday night out ahead of a new national lockdown that will be introduced from next week.

Drinkers in fancy costumes were seen in various cities such as Birmingham, Leeds and Newcastle.

From Thursday, England will be put under a stringent second lockdown that will see bars, pubs and restaurants closing except for delivery or take-away services.

This weekend has seen many young people heading out to meet their friends in what could be the last night out in at least a month.

Many were seen wearing Halloween costumes, like a group of friends dressed up as bananas in Portsmouth.

Others used make-up to make themselves look like characters in movies and cartoons for the celebrations.

Currently, England is under a three-tier system of restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Most places have the so-called rule of six in place, meaning people cannot meet in groups of more than six people.

But under new rules coming into force from next Thursday, people will only be allowed to meet another person from a different household.

Support bubbles will remain in place and people can still meet up in their bubble.

The new national lockdown will run from November 5 until December 2.

Boris Johnson announced the new lockdown as coronavirus cases in the UK since the start of the outbreak passed one million, with a further 21,915 reported on Saturday.

The Government also said another 326 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Saturday.
