Halloween night sparks more than 50 calls to fire service

Halloween has tonight sparked more than 50 calls to firefighters.

Crews across Northern Ireland have been tackling fires across the region tonight.

Halloween celebrations are thought to be the reason for the calls.

However, they've also said that things remain relatively quiet.

The calls seemed to have mainly taken place in a three hour window, between 6pm and 9pm.

It is believed most of the incidents were small bonfires and rubbish.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Spokesperson said: “Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service is responding to calls associated with Halloween night celebrations with the situation remaining relatively quiet.

“Between 6pm and 9pm, NIFRS Regional Control Centre received 52 emergency calls and Fire Crews have responded to 38 operational incidents. The majority of these incidents have involved small bonfires and rubbish.

"We thank the community for following the Covid-19 regulations and not putting additional pressure on your Firefighters during this time."
