Halloween Ireland 2019: Live updates as Emergency Services deal with bonfires

Halloween is one of the busiest nights of the year for our Emergency Services.

Dublin Fire Brigade have released a live interactive map that will track all reported fires in the county this evening.

Firefighters have already had a busy 24 hours, responding to over 40 fires last night.

And Halloween night looks set to be even busier.

Dolphin's Barn firefighters have already responded to a bonfire in Drimnagh, south Dublin, that had been used to barricade a road.

Dublin Fire Brigade tweeted: "Call 999 or 112 to report a bonfire which you believe to be dangerous. We will assess each fire reported to us. Action may not be taken if the bonfire poses no danger."

While there are no such interactive maps for other counties, we will be providing you with updates throughout the night from across the country.

The Cork Fire Service have the following advice to keep the public safe this Halloween.

"Halloween is a fun, and spooky, time of year for kids.

"Make trick-or-treating safe for your little monsters with a few easy safety tips.

"When choosing a costume, stay away from long trailing fabric.

"If your child is wearing a mask, make sure the eye holes are large enough so he or she can see out.

"Provide children with flashlights to carry for lighting or glow sticks as part of their costume.

"Use a battery-operated candle or glow-sticks in lanterns. If you use a real candle, use extreme caution.

"Make sure children are watched at all times when candles are lit.

"Be sure to place lit pumpkins well away from anything that can burn and far enough out of the way of trick-or-treaters, doorsteps, footpaths and yards.

"Remember to keep exits clear of decorations, so nothing blocks escape routes.

"Make sure all smoke alarms in the home are working.

"Tell children to stay away from open flames including lanterns with candles in them.

"If attending a bonfire please stay a safe distance back and make sure children are accompanied by an adult

"Lastly, please remember our crews are there to PROTECT YOU! Having a fire appliance off the run because of vandalism has a huge impact on the service we are there to provide. So please respect our crews should you see them out and about.

"Enjoy the night and stay safe."
