Halloween in Dublin: Dracula fans hope to break world record for largest gathering of vampires in one place

Dublin Dracula fans are hoping to break the world record for the largest gathering of vampires in one place.

As we go further into spooky season, hundreds of people dressed as the famous fanged creature will congregate outside the Sean McDermott Street Church on October 23 at 6.30 pm.

The current world record is held by Doswell, Virginia where 1,039 Vampires gathered on 30 September, 2011.

Horror fans will be in for a fangtastic time as the world record attempt will happen as a part of The Big Scream Halloween Community Festival in Dublin's North East Inner City.

Festival director Yetti Redmond said: “The author of Dracula, Bram Stoker lived near where we'll be gathering.

“He lived here for longer than anywhere else in Dublin. This is a little known fact.

“So we felt that this event would be an interesting way to highlight our famous former resident. While people are here, we'll encourage them to take a selfie at the Dracula mural outside the Bram Stoker house!”

He added that it will be an event for the whole family with live music, face painting, treats, and spare capes as well as a fire engine for all the little monsters.

Mr Redmond said: “Hopefully, this is something that will capture people's imaginations and that there will be a big turnout on the night.

“Apart from Dracula, we will have people there such as the Dublin GAA hero, Michael Darragh Macauley, so we know that it will be a great atmosphere for all the family.”

The festival will run from October 22 to October 31 with a variety of fun events in store including horror movie screenings, gothic torchlit walking tours, Halloween craft workshops, dress-up bingo with Count Dracula, and doggie costume competition.
