Halloween in Dublin 2019: 11 fangtastic kid-friendly events taking place in the capital

The night of ghouls, ghosts, and witches is just around the corner as kids across Dublin are gearing up for the most spooktacular time of the year.

Here at Dublin Live, we love everything about Halloween - from pumpkin picking to haunted houses and of course, spooky costumes.

If you're worried about how to keep the kids entertained this Halloween, don't fret as we bring you a list of fangtastic family-friendly events in the capital.

Is this the best Halloween costume ever?

The Cauldron of Smithfield

 

Get ready for some Halloween fun and excitement as the Smithfield and Stoneybatter Cauldron Tour will run from Wednesday for a week.

Visitors will have the chance to attend a variety of mini festivals in Dublin 7.

And on October 31, families will have the chance to take part in some frightfully exciting activities in Smithfield Square including a 1,000ft zip line and the daunting Giant Climbing Wall.

You can also visit the brand new “'House of The Damned” scare tent or watch “Night Creatures” parade.

There will be something for everyone including the Dublin Circus Project, big screen playstation tournaments, food stalls, art workshops, art installations, giant bouncy castle, and face painting.

The Phantom of the Flats

Head down to the Dorset Street Flats on Halloween for a night of ghoulish fun.

There are a variety of thrilling events in store including big screen Fifa tournaments, just dance tournaments, giant inflatables, face painting, live entertainment and music, prizes, delicious food, craft workshops, and more!

The Phantom of the Flats runs from 5pm to 8.30 pm on October 31 and is a no-alcohol event.

Dockers and Demons

Dockers and Demons is set to take over Ringsend, Irishtown, and the Docklands communities.

There’s no lack of activities here as the festival will have several events taking place in the run up to Halloween.

Take your kids to the Deadly Disco on October 25 for a night of spooktacular dancing.

There are some fantastic fancy dress prizes in store so make sure you have your best Halloween costumes on!

If your little monsters are the artsy type, why not take them to the Secret of the 7 Rooms on October 26 to see the new horror art installation at the Ringsend & Irishtown Community Centre.

More events include a circus,  Halloween ball, trick and treating party and more.

Make sure you book your tickets in advance to avoid any disappointment!

Scare D8

Scare D8 will have everything from a haunted house, Halloween games, crafts, playstation competitions, street performers, face painters, playstation competitions, majorettes, live music, and lots more!

The Liberties Haunt will be taking place at SWICN, Digital Court in Rainsfort Street on Halloween night.

The parade will start from 5.30 pm and the event will run until 8.30 pm.

Head down to the Cabbage Patch Gardens off Kevin Street for trick and treating at 5.30 pm and catch a screening of the Halloween classic film “Hocus Pocus”.

Ballymun Otherworld Halloween Festival

The theme for this year’s Otherworld Halloween Festival is “Samahin” with a number of spooky activities planned for October 31.

Aspiring acrobats can take part in the circus skills workshops held by the Dublin Circus Company.

Or you can head down to “Fright Night”  in the Trinity Comprehensive College in Ballymun from 6.45 pm to 9.30pm on October 23 and 24, for children aged 10-years-old and over.

The festival will kick off at the Ballymun Plaza at 6pm and will have a range of activities hosted by Witches Brew Café, New Music Lounge, Spooky Tunnel, Fairground, and Dublin Circus Company performers.

And to top it all off, there will also be a fireworks display at 8.30 pm. 

The Big Scream Halloween Community Festival

Taking place in Dublin's North East Inner City,  the Big Scream festival will be celebrating Bram Stoker and one of his most famous works- Dracula.

The Ballybough Community Centre will have everything from a hauntes house, inflatables, games, and goodies as part of the Boo at Ballybough on October 22.

Or you can check out the Halloween themed afternoon tea at the St Laurence O'Toole Daycare Centre on October 23.

And the festival will attempt to break the world record for the largest gathering of vampires in one place on the same day at the Sean McDermott Street Church.

There will also be a Halloween Dress-Up Bingo with Count Dracula at the Ballybough Community centre on October 24.

Finglas Fright Night Festival

The annual festival will see some of the most ghoulish entertainment including  a Path of Misery, Colm Dawson’s Magic Show, and Fancy Dress competition.

There will also be fairground attractions including, a merry-go-round, kiddies roller coaster, teenage terminator, chair-o-planes, and obstacle courses.

Dance along to the music by local bands from the Finglas Youth Resource Centre and ABBA Girls.

The event will take place at the Civic Centre, Mellows Road on Halloween night from 6 pm to 9 pm.

Bram Stoker Spooktacular

The Bram Stoker Park in Fairview is set to transform into Dracula's lair on October 30 from 6pm to 8pm.

Come along for the interactive light and sound show with music and special effects.

Haunted House- Danrdale Community Hall & Sphere 17

Bring your little monsters along to explore the haunted house on October 29 from noon to 3 pm.

There will also be a variety of deadly activities including bouncy castles, face painters, balloon makers, a magician, arts and crafts, and giant games.

Admission is free to witches, scary monsters, ghouls and ghosts.

Cool Planet Experience

Kids will have the chance to explore the spooky side of science a the Cool Planet Experience.

The 90 minute spooktacular labs run from October 26 to October 31 and is priced at €20 per child at the Powerscourt Estate in Co Wicklow.

Get ready for a frightfully good time as your kids can bring out their inner mad scientists while playing with lots of oozing potions, glowing slime and fangtastic explosions.

Spooky fancy dress costumes are encouraged, but optional.

Parents are advised to pre-book to avoid a fright.

Tayto Park

Kids who wear a full Halloween costume on October 31 can get in for free!

The Wicked Adventures at Tayto Park will start off at the Face Painting Hut where you can transform into your favourite Halloween character, before stepping inside the Wicked Witches Lair where the spooktacular adventure trail begins.

Gather around the cauldron for spooky stories and spell  while enjoying some Halloween themed games suited for all ages.

Make your way through the mysterious passageways of the pumpkin walkthrough and say hello to some of your favourite Halloween characters, but be prepared for a trick or a treat!

And continue on to the Wacky Wizard’s Mansion, be amazed by spooky magicians.
