Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt is no stranger to being complimented by some of the best. The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and multiple NFL record holder is easily one of the most disruptive defensive players the game has seen in recent decades.
However, as with anything, some compliments mean more than others, especially when the bonified greats are involved. Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown is widely credited as one of, if not the best running back of all time. A nine-time Pro Bowler and eight-time first-team All-Pro, he spent his entire nine-year NFL career with the Cleveland Browns, recording 12,312 rushing yards and 106 touchdowns in 118 games (all starts).
To be noticed by someone of Brown’s stature means a great deal, but to be singled out by him means a great deal more. Speaking at an autograph show at NRG Arena in Houston Saturday, the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson reported that it would seem that Brown admitted that he holds Watt in glowing regard.
“He’s one of a kind,” said Brown. “He has the spirit. He has the ability. He has the game. He has the attitude to affect the whole team. I have a lot of respect for him,” Brown went on to say.
And it isn’t just Watt who has impressed the legendary running back, with second-year Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson also having caught his eye: “I like what I see.”
“Obviously, he’s a great athlete,” said Brown. “I think he should look forward to a great future.”
