Halifax midfielder Liam Nolan hits out at Notts County captain Michael Doyle for 'career-ending' tackle

Halifax midfielder Liam Nolan claims Notts County captain Michael Doyle could have ended Charlie Cooper's career with the tackle that earned him a red card in the Magpies' 1-0 win this weekend.

Doyle was sent off just three minutes after the restart when, despite winning the ball, was dismissed as a result of the follow through.

It was the Irishman's second red card of the season which has now left him staring at a four-match ban as a result.

Notts manager Neal Ardley said his initial reaction was that it was a red card, but wanted to see the challenge again before making a firm decision.

But Halifax midfielder Nolan told his club's official website that he had a good view of the incident and felt Cooper had been lucky to escape serious injury.

“I was close to it and do think it was a red card," he said.

"He did win the ball first but, he has gone straight over the top and could have broke his leg, it was a career ending tackle.

"The right decision was made to send him off.”

Cooper, who was making his debut for Halifax after signing from Forest Green Rovers, gave his own account of the challenge, but played down its severity.

And he said he had no problem with Doyle whose team-mates secured a 1-0 victory courtesy of Kyle Wootton's well-taken goal.

“To be fair to him the ball was there to be won, it was bouncing in between us, and he has got the ball and it’s just the follow through and luckily for me, I’m alright," he said.

"So, there’s no hard feelings."
