Halifax criticised after introducing subtle change to bank staff's name badges

Halifax has caused a stir after adding a subtle change to their staff name badges. A picture on Twitter shows a staff member with 'she', 'her' and 'hers' written underneath 'Gemma'.

The bank has been flooded with replies over social media, with some even threatening to close their accounts over the controversial move.

Simon Edge replied saying: "What if a Halifax employee doesn't want to put pronouns on their lapel, perhaps because they reject the cult of gender ideology? Will they be disadvantaged in any way? Barred from promotion? Fired?." The bank have since confirmed that adding pronouns is "completely optional".

And Stag123 wrote: "Been banking with you for over 40 years. This is just nonsense. Pathetic virtue signalling. Concentrate on core issue of banking please."

But the bank has hit back at some of their critics - when Drew asked: “How do I close my account?” Halifax brutally replied: "You can close your account by calling us on 0345 720 3040 or putting your request in writing to: Halifax Account Closure Team, PO Box 548, Leeds, LS1 1WU. ^AndyM."

In a reply to another customer, they wrote: "We want to create a safe and accepting environment that opens the conversation around gender identity. We care about our customers and colleagues individual preferences. For us, it’s a very simple solution to accidental misgendering."

However, there were some messages of support for the move (Steve Allen)

However, there has been some support for Halifax - If Not Now Digital tweeted: “Next time someone tries to tell you the left are too easily offended, just remember grown adults are literally closing their accounts with Halifax because they put pronouns on their workers’ name badges.”

And Paul Duane said: "Weird to see so many people in a frothing rage about a bit of harmless courtesy. Well done for doing this."
