Halfords shuts all stores early today so workers can watch England vs Denmark

Halfords is to shut its shops early today so staff can watch the England vs Denmark Euro 2020 semi-final match.

The car and bike parts retailer confirmed its shops will close at 7pm at the latest this evening only (July 7) ahead of the 8pm kick-off.

This includes its branches in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Halfords shops typically close at 8pm, Monday to Friday, so they’ll be shut one hour before - giving staff time to get home to watch the game.

It confirmed the news in an update on Twitter today, saying: “We're coming home (early).

“Halfords stores are closing at 7pm tonight so our colleagues can cheer on the lads!”

The change in hours is good news for retail staff who wouldn’t otherwise have been able to catch the Three Lions, or were planning on using holiday to take the time off.

Halfords has 446 shops in the UK, as well as 371 garages, 75 “mobile expert” vans and 26 performance cycling stores.

The retailer confirmed all its stores will be closing at 7pm tonight, while its garages will shut at 6pm as normal.

However, its vans will run until 8pm as usual, to honour existing customer bookings.

Customers were praising the move on social media today.

England manager Gareth Southgate (PA)

One said: "What an employer you guys are. Well done."

A second tweeted: "We'll be with you... come on England!"

A third joked: "Well done Halfords. P.s. don’t go closing early Friday as I need a few bits, thanks."

Another person said: "What a great employer."

England fans will see the Three Lions take on Denmark tonight at Wembley Stadium after thrashing Ukraine 4-0 in Rome on Saturday (July 3).

Should Gareth Southgate's men prove victorious tonight, they'll face off against Italy in the final of the tournament, again in Wembley Stadium, this Sunday (July 11).

Italy made it through to the final after beating Spain in penalties yesterday (July 6).
