Half price meal deal for all Scots dining out during August in new 'Eat Out To Help Out' scheme

Scots will be able to enjoy half price meals when they dine out every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during August in a bid to boost the hospitality sector.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak made the announcement during his summer statement on Wednesday and said the "Eat Out to Help Out" scheme would provide 50 per cent off - up to a maximum of £10 per head - meals at participating businesses across the UK.

Restaurants, cafes and pubs have been severely affected by the coronavirus lockdown, with many staff placed on the UK Government's Job Retention Scheme.

Businesses will need to register to participate in the scheme, and can do so through a website which opens on Monday, July 13.

The Chancellor explained: "Each week in August, businesses can then claim the money back, with the funds in their bank account within five working days."

A Treasury document said the discount can be used "unlimited times".
