Drastic plans are being drawn up to tackle the climate crisis that could have a major impact on millions of households across Scotland and the rest of the UK.
In an effort to help the world achieve its zero-emissions target, households are being warned that gas boilers could be banned from 2025.
The measure is just one of 400 announced to address global warming, with others including a ban on the sale of high-polluting petrol and diesel cars by 2030.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) said no new fossil fuel boilers should be sold from 2025, except where they are compatible with hydrogen.

And now Mirror Online reports that households will be able to upgrade their boilers for thousands of pounds less than the current price.
Green campaigners say the price of gas boiler alternatives such as heat pumps will be cheaper within months - well ahead of the 2025 gas boiler ban.
Homeowners had previously raised concerns that the installation of new boilers would cost them thousands of pounds, but campaigners said last week it wouldn't be long before the price is slashed to affordable levels.
At the moment heat pumps can set homeowners back an average of £10,000, but by making more of them in Britain, firms are confident the price will halve within 18 months to around £5,500.
Experts also say that heat pumps are more efficient than gas boilers, have fewer parts and are safer.
Octopus Energy is investing £10million to build the UK’s first major training centre for heat pump engineers, creating thousands of new jobs in an emerging sector.
Greg Jackson, CEO and founder of Octopus Energy, said yesterday: "Today, they're expensive because it's a cottage industry, but Octopus should be able to halve the price over the next couple of years and we think they'll end up costing roughly the same as gas boilers.
"Running costs will hopefully fall too, as the government is expected to remove some of the green taxes from electricity bills.
“This isn't just about preventing climate change - it's about bringing us cheaper, safer, cleaner, more reliable heating."
Ministers are also expected to confirm a £4,000 per household incentive for those who install an eco-heat pump from March, 2022.
The UK Government wants to install 600,000 heat pumps in Britain's homes by 2028.
