Figures released by the National Records of Scotland today (Wednesday, April 29) revealed another 50 people died from COVID-19 in South Lanarkshire - with 25 of those in care homes.

That brings the total number of deaths in the area to 153, with 62 of those occurring in the region's care homes.

In North Lanarkshire, 158 people have died from COVID-19 but just 50 of those occurred in care homes.

Only Lothian (370) and Greater Glasgow and Clyde (741) have seen a higher number of deaths from coronavirus than Lanarkshire.

Across Scotland, 2272 people have died as a result of COVID-19. Almost three-quarter (74 per cent) were aged 75 or over while 39 per cent of deaths occurred in care homes.

The figures released by the National Records of Scotland include all deaths up to Sunday, April 26.
