Yokozuna Hakuho will donate 25,000 masks to medical professionals in Japan and in his home country of Mongolia, the Japan Sumo Association announced on Monday. Hakuho used the prize money he won in the Spring grand sumo tournament to cover the cost of the masks. In Japan, the masks will be donated via hospitals regularly visited by Hakuho and his supporters, and in Mongolia, the masks will go via a viral disease research institute run by the government.
Although the Summer grand sumo tournament was canceled, Hakuho said, "I keep doing what I have to do, such as practicing and training ... Everyone has to wear a mask every day and may feel a lot of stress, but let's get through this together."
