
Yokozuna Hakuho moved into sole possession of the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament lead after earning his fifth victory on the sixth day at the Fukuoka Kokusai Center on Friday.
The only yokozuna (5-1) in the basho defeated No. 2 maegashira Meisei (4-2) with an overarm throw just after the tachiai in the final bout of the day.
It was Hakuho's fourth consecutive win after losing to Daieisho on the second day.
Among ozeki, Takayasu (2-4) -- who is wrestling under kadoban status, meaning he will need a majority to retain his rank -- suffered his fourth loss when went down to No. 2 maegashira Myogiryu (3-3).
The ozeki was apparently favoring the left elbow he injured during the Nagoya basho in July.
Ozeki Takakeisho (3-3), also lost as No. 4 maegashira Tamawashi (4-2) pushed him out.
Meanwhile, No. 3 maegashira Takarafuji (3-3) forced out sekiwake Mitakeumi (2-4).
Popular komusubi Endo earned just his second win by defeating fellow komusubi Asanoyama (4-2) to stop a skid of consecutive losses.
