Yokozuna Hakuho comfortably kept his perfect record on the third day of the Spring Grand Sumo Tournament in Osaka on Tuesday, while Goeido became the only ozeki among the basho leaders.
Hakuho, who turned 34 on the previous day, showed off his strength by steadily moving winless No. 1 maegashira Kaisei to the edge of the ring and throwing him out in the final bout of the day.
Goeido pushed out Nishikigi -- holding his opponent's leg in the process -- to keep the No. 3 maegashira winless.
Fellow yokozuna Kakuryu managed to notch his second victory after escaping an aggressive charge from top-ranked maegashira Endo (0-3) and eventually pushing him out.
Two other ozeki -- Takayasu and Tochinoshin -- fell back from the basho lead pack. Takayasu suffered his first loss after No. 2 maegashira Daieisho (2-1) pushed him out without allowing the ozeki to grab his belt.
Tochinoshin, who is wrestling under kadoban status, fell to his second loss as komusubi Hokutofuji (1-2) pushed him out.
In other action, sekiwake Takakeisho, making his bid for promotion to ozeki, lost to komusubi Mitakeumi (2-1).
No. 4 maegashira Ichinojo defeated fellow No. 4 maegashira Tochiozan (1-2), to keep his record perfect. No. 7 maegashira Aoiyama also picked up his third win by slapping down No. 5 maegashira Onosho (2-1).
