Hakim Ziyech to Chelsea: Latest announcement raises questions over £33.4m transfer

Hakim Ziyech’s arrival to Chelsea on July 1 is under some threat after the global coronavirus pandemic.

Frank Lampard made the Moroccan his first official signing, with Mateo Kovacic having been brought in after his loan spell from Real Madrid.

With the Blues having not signed anyone in the January transfer window, Lampard was keen to make sure the Blues were on top of things going into the summer window.

During his time at Ajax, Ziyech has shown himself to be a top player in European football and could make a big impact with the club.

With a fee agreed with Ajax and personal terms also settled, the 27-year-old is scheduled to complete the move on July 1.

However, the coronavirus outbreak has pushed everything back and an announcement from the Netherlands government may have a big impact.

They announced on Monday (March 23) that all events where people gather will be suspended until at least June 1.

It means that if the 2019/20 Eredivisie campaign is going to be completed this summer then the earliest it will start again is in June.

According to Voetbalzone, it means the chances of the season being completed has become less likely.

Chelsea and other clubs are still awaiting news on what might happen with the summer transfer window, whether contracts will be extended or if there won’t be one at all.

The Blues have several players who have contracts running out at the end of June, including Willian, Pedro, Olivier Giroud and Willy Caballero.

But Lampard and the Blues will be keen to know what the ongoing situation will be with Ziyech and when he can complete his transfer to Stamford Bridge.
