Hakim Ziyech set to seal Chelsea transfer on July 1 as Eredivisie is cancelled

Hakim Ziyech will be free to join Chelsea without delay this summer after the Eredivisie season was cancelled.

The Dutch FA and clubs have ratified the decision to end the season prematurely after major events were banned in the Netherlands until September 1.

The decision follows Uefa's approval that curtailing campaigns will be allowed in such circumstances.

The Moroccan winger agreed a £37.8million move to Stamford Bridge in February, and is now set to join on July 1 with the Dutch top flight coming to an end rather than being extended into the summer.

Ziyech will not be able to feature for Chelsea in any games this season, but any risk of injury or having to cram in a pre-season with his new club has been alleviated.

Defending champions Ajax were leading the league table on goal difference from surprise package AZ Alkmaar when the season was suspended in early March - but today's decision ensures there will be no champions, promotion or relegation in the top flight.

Ajax were in something of a slump when the league was stopped, having been hauled in by AZ, who have also beaten them home and away this season.
