Hakim Ziyech injury: Chelsea boss Frank Lampard offers update on summer signing

Frank Lampard has provided an early update after Hakim Ziyech suffered an injury during Chelsea's friendly against Brighton on Saturday.

Ziyech, 27, joined Chelsea from Ajax this summer, finally completing his long-awaited move to Stamford Bridge after the start of the transfer window was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Morocco playmaker started alongside fellow summer signing Timo Werner as Chelsea took on Premier League rivals Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, with 2,5000 Seagulls fans in attendance as the match was given the green light by the government as a test event for allowing supporters back into stadiums.

Ziyech had an immediate impact with a role in Werner's first goal for Chelsea just four minutes into the game, but he then suffered a potential injury setback after the break.

Just eight minutes into the second half, Ziyech needed treatment from Chelsea physios as he seemingly felt the effects of a poor challenge beforehand.

Ziyech received treatment as he stayed down before hobbling off the pitch gingerly, with Conor Gallagher on in his place.

Following the game, Chelsea's website says: "Lampard described it as a little twist to the knee that will have to be assessed."

Chelsea also lost substitute Olivier Giroud to injury in second-half stoppage time, with the French striker requiring treatment and a bandage for a cut to his head after colliding painfully with Brighton's third-string goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

With Chelsea's first game of the 2020/21 Premier League season coming up on September 14 - coincidentally away to Brighton - Lampard will hope that neither injury is serious.
