Moroccan forward Hakim Ziyech put Ajax within touching distance of the Champions League final with a stunning first half finish in their semi-final clash with Tottenham.
Ajax skipper Matthias De Ligt had already scored a fifth minute opener to add to the 1-0 lead the Dutch side had earned in the first leg in London a week ago.
And as Spurs looked to mount a comeback from 2-0 down on aggregate, their task was made even harder by Ziyech’s fifth Champions League goal of the season.
Predictably, former Southampton man Dusan Tadic, a revelation since his move to the Netherlands last summer, was involved, collecting the ball wide on the left.
As he looked up to find support in the middle he spotted the run of Ziyech, darting ahead of a labouring Victor Wanyama to whip a sensational curling effort into the far corner and leave Spurs needing a turnaround to rival that which Liverpool produced against Barcelona in the first semi-final on Tuesday.
