Hakim Ziyech admits that his first Premier League appearance for Chelsea was not the debut he had been hoping for.
The Moroccan international came off the bench against Southampton to make his first top flight appearance for the Blues since his summer switch from Ajax.
But having replaced Mason Mount with 18 minutes of the clash remaining at Stamford Bridge, Ziyech and his team-mates were left frustrated as Jannik Vestergaard netted an injury time equaliser for Saints.
The Dane's goal meant more dropped points for Chelsea, leaving the Blues with eight points from their opening five games of the new Premier League season.
And Ziyech gave an honest assessment of his debut in a Chelsea shirt, having had to wait for his opportunity after picking up an injury in pre-season.
"It means a lot, I am very happy about it," he said in an interview with the club website after making his debut.
"But it is not the debut that we all hoped for.
"In the first half, we played well and had some big chances, and got to 2-0. It was a bit disappointing that they got the goal before half time, and then it went 2-2, 3-2 and then in the last minutes, 3-3, which is not something we can be happy about."
However, Ziyech and his Chelsea team-mates will have a quick opportunity to try and put things right, with the Blues welcoming Sevilla to Stamford Bridge in their first Champions League group stage fixture on Tuesday night.
