Hakim Ziyech decision, Thiago Silva rest - Chelsea predicted team vs Krasnodar

Frank Lampard is likely to make a number of changes for tonight's Champions League Group E game away to Krasnodar, with Chelsea's head coach placing an emphasis on fresh legs and protecting those in need of load management.

Thiago Silva has been rested while Mason Mount is likely to come back into the XI having come off the bench late on in the scoreless draw away to Manchester United last Saturday evening.

Where the England international starts is harder to predict. Hakim Ziyech will get extended minutes if not a first start for the West London club after Lampard said that the attacker is nearing full fitness following a knee injury.

But Kai Havertz is also still searching for peak form and may continue in the No10 role, while Christian Pulsic is also searching for sharpness.

A replacement for Thiago Silva is also tricky to guess but Toni Rudiger could make his first appearance of the campaign having appeared on the bench at Old Trafford instead of Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori.

Mateo Kovacic may also be in line for his first start for one of Jorginho or N'Golo Kante considering both have had so many minutes of late, while Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi are among those keen for minutes.

Marcos Alonso is suspended, Billy Gilmour remains injured and Kepa is sidelined by a shoulder issue.

Chelsea team to face Krasnodar: Edouard Mendy; Reece James, Toni Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, Ben Chilwell; N'Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic; Hakim Ziyech, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic; Timo Werner.

Tonight's game kicks off at 5:55pm GMT, 8:55pm in Krasnodar. You can follow all the action live in our match blog with Alan Smith - build up starts at 2pm/5pm on football.london.
