Hakan Calhanoglu comments on Chelsea transfer amid Man United's 'advanced talks'

Manchester United are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Hakan Calhanoglu from AC Milan next summer on a free transfer.

The Turkey international has a contract with the Serie A side which expires at the end of the current season, and has been in good form so far that has helped his side to the top of the Italian table.

According to Bild journalist Christian Falk, the former Bayer Leverkusen star is "very likely" to complete a switch to Old Trafford.

"Yes it's true and I think this will happen because last summer there will already talks with his agent," Falk told Stretford Paddock.

"I don't know if you know that Juventus would have also have liked him last summer but he said, 'no'.

"He said no because he already knew what would happen this summer with United.

"Talks are already very, very far at the moment and he'll be a free agent, so this transfer is very, very likely."

Calhanoglu has previously been linked with a move to Chelsea, though he denied reports back in 2017 that he was hoping to make a move to Stamford Bridge from Leverkusen.

The playmaker was quoted by Turkish paper Fanatik as stating: "God willing, I will be a Chelsea player next season."

However, he took to Twitter to deny the reports, stating that he had never spoken about Chelsea in the press, and had not discussed the matter with any Turkish journalist.

"I said nothing about Chelsea in the press & didn't talk to any Turkish journalist -- neither about the court decision nor about my future!"

The 26-year-old has been in decent form for Milan this season, netting four goals and creating another four in 14 appearances in all competitions.

A move to Stamford Bridge next summer would seem to be unlikely, given the recent addition of Kai Havertz from Leverkusen, as well as Mason Mount's rise to prominence under Frank Lampard.

The Blues sit third in the Premier League table, just two points behind Spurs and Liverpool following the 0-0 draw against Jose Mourinho's side at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
