Rangers defender Nikola Katic could have played his last game for the club with Hajduk Split having an option to buy at the end of his deal.
The centre back made the move back to his homeland on deadline day after both he and Rangers decided he needed to play regular first time football this season.
Glasgow Live Sport understands the Croatian defender still hopes he has a future at the club and has never been told he won't have a future but Hajduk wanted the option as part of the deal.
And it's believed the fee is worth around £3million should the Croatian outfit decide to try and make it permanent.
That's more than double what Rangers paid for him back in 2018 when he became one of Steven Gerrard's first signings as manager of the club.
Gerrard still views Katic as having a potential future at Ibrox but with Connor Goldson and Filip Helander as his first choices, and Leon Balogun and Jack Simpson also at the club, the Ibrox side felt it was better for him to head out on loan.
He was on the sideline at full time on Sunday when his team-mates celebrated Rangers winning the first Old Firm derby on the season.
The big defender became a fan favourite at Ibrox for his willingness to run through a brick wall for the team and he famously scored Rangers' first winning goal at Celtic Park in more than a decade.
