Hairy Bikers fans left in tears as Dave Myers reveals devastating toll of cancer diagnosis

Dave Myers had fans in tears as he gave an honest insight into his battle with cancer during Hairy Bikers: Coming Home For Christmas.

The festive special reunited chefs Myers and Si King on TV for the first time since Myers underwent cancer treatment earlier this year. While the show largely focused on the pair’s love of food and cooking, it also featured updates on his cancer diagnosis and showed him going through therapy to help him walk once more.

During the episode, Myers discussed why he had made the decision not to reveal what type of cancer he had and gave an update on how he was doing now following an otherwise difficult year.

He said: “I didn’t want to eat. I would fall over quite a lot. By the second lot of chemo my hair came out really quite radically. Your hair, eyelashes, everything just goes.

“I've never gone on about what sort of cancer I’ve got because I feel like that’s my business. I don’t want newspapers to run a lottery on how long I’ve got to live. That’s not what I want. I felt so guilty because of the effects it’s having on my wife Lil.”

He also shared his joy at being able to get out on the road again with friend and colleague King amid his health woes.

“My legs are going, the grin, I feel like a hysterical teenager again. I’m going to phone Kingy. It means we can get back on the road together again,” he told the camera.

It was all a bit too much for people at home, who took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their devastation.

“Never had a tear watching someone ride a bike before!,” one wrote person, while another added: “Making me blub 15 minutes in…”
