A former patient who smashed a hospital window has been ordered to foot the £200 bill.
Alan Belfit, 58, this week admitted causing damage at University Hospital Hairmyres in East Kilbride.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard he smashed the window with a brick after being refused treatment.
Morag McLintock, prosecuting, said Belfit, of East Kilbride, told police officers: “I was drunk and it was stupid. I didn’t mean it.”
Defence agent Mark Connolly said his client had been a patient at the hospital and was on medication.
The solicitor explained: “He went there to try to speak to a psychiatrist with a view to being re-admitted.
“He was turned away and took out his anger in this way.
“He has pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.”
Sheriff Thomas Millar gave Belfit 12 months to pay £200 compensation to NHS Lanarkshire.
