Hairmyres Hospital blaze drama as three fire engines respond to late night incident

Fire engines have rushed to Hairmyres Hospital in Lanarkshire after reports of a blaze at the site.

Emergency services were alerted at around 10pm. Three fire engines responded to the incident at the hospital in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire. Police Scotland officers are also in attendance.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are currently in attendance at a fire at Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride.

"We received an alert around 9.45pm and operations control mobilised three appliances.

"Firefighters remain on the scene."

It is not yet clear which area of the hospital has been affected by the blaze but police have cordoned off parts of the site.

Local SNP councillor Jordan Linden tweeted: “Understand there are reports of a fire at Lanarkshire University Hospital Hairmyres.

“Our thanks as ever to the Emergency Services who will be responding to this incident and our thoughts to all Staff and Patients at this time.”
