Hairdressers, retail and every lockdown rule change Taoiseach Micheal Martin is expected to announce

Ireland has steadily reopened throughout April, with countywide travel, the return of inter-county GAA and students going back to school some of the major headlines.

When the Taoiseach Micheál Martin addressed the nation at the end of March, he said the next major review would be at the start of May.

"The Government will review the situation prior to May 4th and will consider options, subject to the prevailing public health situation, at that time."

But we already know that the Taoiseach is set to address the country next week about the potential lifting of more lockdown rules - and here are the five main things we believe he will address.

The full return of construction activity

Residential construction restarted on April 12 alongside early-learning and childcare projects.

But having seen cases stabilise and the drop in hospital numbers in relation to Covid, a further loosening for the industry is expected next week.

A phased return of non-essential retail

With some retail outlets having had their doors shut since Christmas, they are desperate to reopen.

And it seem that the Government will signal the start of a full return by allowing click and collect for some in May.

And horticulturists will rejoice too if Micheál Martin gives the go ahead for garden centres to reopen fully too.

The return of 'personal services' on a staggered basis

No more lockdown mullets and dip-dyeing your own hair, because the return of 'personal services' has been pencilled in for next month.

Hairdressers were shut back in December as the Government rushed to implement a strict Covid-19 lockdown following an unprecedented surge in cases.

However it seems that we could very much see the return of hairdressers on May 4 as cases remain stable and vaccines continue to be rolled out.

The full reopening of museums, galleries and libraries

We've already seen Dublin Zoo and Fota Wildlife Park will reopen from Monday 26th.

But if all goes to plan, a number of other tourist attractions will see doors swing open once more in May.

As long as they can adequately bring in measure to prevent crowds, everything should go to plan.

The recommencement of religious services on a staggered basis

This has been a big sticking point for a number of rural TDs and it would appear that mass and other religious services will be allowed to resume in May.

All of these changes are on a number of conditions.

The Government say: "Any easing of measures should be slow and gradual with sufficient time between phases to assess impact and to respond if the epidemiological situation were to deteriorate. It will take account of emerging international and national evidence and experience and with aspecific focus on supporting mental health and wellbeing."
