Hairdressers permitted to open from 6AM on Friday as Glasgow moves to level three

The First Minister has confirmed that hairdressers are part of the non-essential retail sector that are permitted to open from 6AM on Friday.

Glasgow and other local authority areas are preparing to move to level three restrictions with early opening hours.

The early opening hours are so that retailers can "stagger" shoppers entering the stores and manage hygiene measures.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon urged retailers to be responsible and asked for shoppers to "keep the heid".

The news comes after Primark in Braehead announced they will stay open for 36 hours straight.

Ms Sturgeon confirmed a total of 897 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Scotland in the past 24 hours. The total figure of positive cases is 102,372.

39 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 3,989.
