Hairdresser charged with murder of husband of 34 years just days after Christmas

A woman is due to appear in court today charged with murder in connection with the death of her husband just days after Christmas.

Teresa Hanson, aged 53, of West Cowick was charged following the death of Paul Hanson and has been remanded into custody to appear at Hull Magistrates Court.

Police were called to reports of an assault at a property in the village near Snaith, East Yorkshire, at around 7.15pm on December 28.

Mr Hanson, 54, was rushed to hospital with a stab wound but died soon afterward.

According to neighbours, Mr Hanson was a doting dad and grandad who would always stop for a chat.

Residents who had only seen him a few days earlier at Snaith Christmas Market with his wife and daughter described them as "a really lovely family".

His daughter, Sherri, had visited at Christmas and posted happy pictures and comments on social media.

In July, Teresa Hanson posted a tribute on social media to her husband, with a smiling picture of them together.

"Happy Anniversary to this man 34 years today wow, not sure we're that's gone had a few challenges along the way ( think you have 9 life's ) but got through them together x 2 kids and 3 gorgeous grandchildren love you loads," she wrote.

Mr Hanson worked as a site manager at Sword Construction UK and his work van could be seen parked in the driveway of the family home at Little London Lane in the village of West Cowick, the Daily Mail reports.

His wife was said to have worked as a hairdresser.

Police previously confirmed the man who died and the woman arrested know each other, saying that police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.

Humberside Police said: "A man who sustained a fatal stab wound at a property in West Cowick on Wednesday 28 December has been named by his family as Paul Hanson, aged 54."

It added that Mr Hanson's family have asked for privacy at this time.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Burnett previously said: "We understand that news of a tragic incident such as this will cause shock and concern to people in the village and surrounding areas.

"However, I wish to reassure people that this was an isolated incident between people who were known to each other and, as such, there is no wider risk to members of the public.

"Officers will remain in West Cowick over the coming days whilst we continue with our investigation, and a scene guard will remain in place."
