Hairdresser shares how to wash hair like a pro at home - but others are unsure

Getting that salon-perfect finish for your hair is something we all strive for, but it feels almost impossible to get your locks looking as good as they do when you leave the chair.

Whatever your hair looks and feels like, a hairdresser has said there's a way to recreate the salon-perfect look, however, and all it comes down to is the way that you wash your hair - but it's a little bit more of an effort than usual, and some are unsure whether they could do it.

Rachel Valentine, who posts on TikTok as @rachelvalentinehair, captioned her video: "Follow these hair wash steps and your hair will be just like when you leave the salon!"

Rachel explained that there's one thing that she gets asked every day, and it's "how to wash your hair properly at home just like a pro", so she wanted to give a demonstration.

She explained that nine times out of 10 she washes her hair over the bath because she prefers it that way - and she also finds the methods she uses easier when done over the tub.

Rachel said that first, you need to "saturate your hair completely" and lift your hair up to reach every bit if you have thick hair. She said you need to ensure that your hair is "soaking wet."

Then, put shampoo in your hands and lather it between your hands to ensure it "goes further", then swipe the shampoo over the scalp to make sure it's "evenly distributed."

She said: "Then I'm using my fingertips with a good, decent amount of pressure and just going around each area of my head and scrubbing."

Rachel explained that the previous tip was the reason why she liked to wash her hair over the bath as it allows her to "reach all areas of her scalp." Do that for a minute before rinsing.

She then said: "Notice how I don't scrub the shampoo into my ends - you don't need to. Shampoos are formulated for your scalp. Your ends don't need the shampoo, so you can just let the water run the shampoo down your hair."

Rachel recommended lightly massaging your scalp to ensure all the product has been removed - then repeating the whole process for a "double cleanse."

Then, once you've finished that wash, squeeze the water out of your hair and "use a towel to towel dry a little further."

Then use conditioner, but on the ends, rather than the scalp, then use your fingers to "comb it through."

She said you can leave conditioner for a "few minutes", and then rinse for "a good minute or so" whilst still massaging your scalp to ensure that all product is removed from the hair to make sure it's "super clean."

She ended the video by saying: "That is how to shampoo like a pro at home."

In the comments, some people weren't so sure about washing their hair over the bath, saying that it would be too much effort.

One said: "My back pain says no", and a TikToker agreed writing: "My back hurts just watching this."

Someone joked: "I wouldn't be able to do this purely because I'm paranoid about a monster or murderer sneaking up behind me and attacking me."

Others said that they agreed with the method, with one woman writing: "I've always washed my hair over the bath because I can't STAND loose hairs falling down my body and into my a**crack. Genuinely makes me wanna cry."
