Hairdresser shares how often you should really wash your hair

A hairdresser has shared the exact amount of times that you should wash your hair every week.

Washing your hair is one of the most common chores, especially when you try to fit hair washing days into a busy schedule. Figuring out how often you need to wash your hair is never as straight forward as it should be.

According to one hairdresser, most people wash their hair half the number of times that they should do, meaning that our hair could be going without the thorough clean that it actually needs, reports the Mirror. Former hairdresser @amy.does.somehair shared a video to TikTok where she explained you need to shampoo your hair twice if you want to ‘wash your hair like a pro’.

In the video, Amy said: “Thoroughly wet your hair, spread the shampoo over your hands and evenly distribute the shampoo all over your scalp. Using the tips of your fingers, massage the shampoo all over your scalp. Don't miss your hairline or nape.

“Rinse and repeat. Focus on the scalp. Use the suds to gently pass through the ends.” She also recommended to condition your hair as normal after shampooing, making sure to avoid the roots and then let it sit for a minute or two and rinse off with cool water.

Many users on TikTok were impressed with their own results as one said: “I was curious and tried this, and my hair is super soft and feels cleaner. Excuse me, what?”

A second added: "I have oily hair and actually noticed a difference shampooing twice! Felt and looked cleaner."

Someone also found that the trick helped to prevent dandruff. They said: “My life changed when I did it twice. Well actually, I use a scrub for my scalp first and then shampoo, but no more dandruff or me!"
