A hairdresser has revealed that you shouldn't be washing your hair every day as it could be doing more damage than good.
Julien Farel, the founder of Julien Farel Restore Salon & Spa in New York, said using shampoo daily can have adverse results on locks.
The stylist explained that washing everyday can make hair go dry and brittle at the ends and greasy on the scalp.
He told GQ : "If you shampoo every day, it will strip your scalp of all its natural oils and can lead to dry, brittle hair."

Instead, he said you should only be breaking out the shampoo two or three times a week at the most.
He said many of his clients who use shampoo sparingly end up with hair that is less greasy - because the head produces natural sebum that help keep locks healthy and soft.
He added that even running hair under water is enough to strip hair of its natural oils, but this is still a better option than using shampoo too often.
The stylist said the only exception to the rule are those who have an oily scalp.
He explained that people who have hair that is thick with oil by 5pm in the evening may need to shampoo more often to balance the levels.
Even if you've been grinding in the gym with a head full of sweat, Julien says a simple rinse without product is still enough to adequately wash your locks.
He even argued the salt from workout sweat could even give hair a nice texture.
The theory has been backed by many other hair professionals, including Pantene expert hairstylist Barney Martin.
She argued that even those with naturally greasy and fine hair shouldn't be washing it every day - with the only exception to the rule being swimmers.
Time to keep the shampoo down and embrace those natural locks.
