Hairdresser shares four ways we're all washing our hair incorrectly

A hairdresser has gone viral on social media after sharing four ways we are washing our hair incorrectly.

Stylist Abbey Yung (@abbeyyung) posted a video on TikTok which has now amassed more than 100,000 views giving her top tips from her profession. She captioned it: "Four reasons your hair NEVER feels as clean as home as it does after the salon".

In the short clip, Abbey explained a number of things we often do while washing our hair that means our follicles are not left as clean as they could be.

Abbey said the hair hacks "changed her life". The first thing the stylist warns not to do is "quickly rinse" your hair before shampooing.

Instead, she advises you take your time when wetting your hair, section by section, with the shower head as close to the roots as possible. In a similar vein, Abbey also warns people against quickly shampooing.

Abbey said: "Spend several minutes massaging shampoo and working in sections". She also advises people do not lather in the shampoo with hair "weighed down".

She said people should "massage upside down to create a similar effect to the shampoo bowl", adding it is much easier to "evenly distribute shampoo when your hair isn't weighed down".

Finally, Abbey told viewers not to quickly rinse their hair, but to rinse more than once to ensure all products are removed. She added: "Product residue can make your hair look dirty".
