Hairdresser explains correct number of times we should be washing our hair

Hair washing is a skill that we use constantly in our day-to-day lives.

But one hairdresser has claimed that we still aren't washing our hair properly, despite years of practice.

Amy, a mum and former hair stylist, has got people re-thinking their cleansing routine after explaining that hair should be lathered with shampoo twice each time you wash your hair.

In the viral TikTok video, Amy shows her followers how to "wash your hair like a pro".

The two-step process includes first applying a regular amount of shampoo, before rinsing, then going in for a second time focusing on your scalp, the Mirror reported.

In her video, which was posted on her @amy.does.some.hair account, she said: "Thoroughly wet your hair, spread the shampoo over your hands and evenly distribute the shampoo all over your scalp.

"Using the tips of your fingers, massage the shampoo all over your scalp. Don't miss your hairline or nape.

"Rinse and repeat.

"Focus on the scalp. Use the suds to gently pass through the ends."

After rinsing the second round of shampoo, you just need to condition it as normal - making sure to avoid the roots - and you should be all set.

Amy added: "Apply conditioner to the ends, avoiding the roots. Let it sit for a minute or two, [then do a] cool rinse if you can stand it."

Commenters on Amy's video were blown away by the news, as many of them said they tried it out for themselves and were shocked by the results.

One person said: "I was curious and tried this, and my hair is super soft and feels cleaner. Excuse me, what?"

As another wrote: "I have oily hair and actually noticed a difference shampooing twice! Felt and looked cleaner."

While a third added: "My life changed when I did it twice. Well actually, I use a scrub for my scalp first and then shampoo, but no more dandruff for me!"
