Hair salon bans gossip magazines following Caroline Flack's death

A hair salon in Cheshire will no longer provide its customers with gossip magazines as it wants to ban them in the wake of Caroline Flack's death.

Oliver Gibney salon in Barnton, Northwich, says customers will no longer be able to read magazines that negatively write about people and their lifetsyles.

The business wants to promote positivity by offering customers educational magazines and reading books.

It follows the death of the Love Island presenter, who took her own life over the weekend, ahead of her assault trial, Cheshire Live reports.

Fans and members of the public have criticised press intrusion into the lives of celebrities and the negative stories written about those in the public eye.

As a result, Oliver, who owns Oliver Gibney salon, has banned gossip magazines from his business.

He said: "As a hairdresser, you hear everyone's stories and people slagging each other off - it's the industry we're in, you get involved in people's business. Everyone's got something to say and I don't want it anymore.

"It's more important than ever now. Caroline's death has really affected me, quite a lot actually.

"Other salons have made the decisions to stop providing gossip magazines and we are standing by them because the negativity bred in these magazines is not healthy," he added.

"Pages and pages of negativity, fat shaming, shaming celebs with no make up and much more.

"We will only supply positive magazines providing personal growth, decor, food, fashion, hair inspiration, health and wellbeing."

Oliver said that from now on, customers are welcome to bring their own magazines but he will not longer be providing them to his customers.
