Hailey Bieber has denied shading Selena Gomez, after a quote from the former star about beauty brands was taken as a diss towards Gomez’s Rare Beauty line.
ICYMI, Bieber and Gomez have been at the centre of feud rumours ever since the model began dating pop star Justin Bieber shortly after his romance with Gomez back in 2017.
In the years since, there’s been accusations of shady TikTok antics and claims by Bieber that the entire feud is “made up”, but the beef was reignited this week when Bieber gave an interview for Wall Street Journal Magazine.

When asked whether she feels competitive now that her products for Rhode — the skincare brand she founded in 2022 — are sold in Sephora, Bieber said she doesn’t “feel competitive with people I’m not inspired by”.
Given that Rare Beauty products are also sold at the same make up retailer, Bieber’s comments were taken by some as a diss towards Gomez, but she was sure to get ahead of any potential comparisons to the singer and actress.
“It’s always annoying being pitted against other people. I didn’t ask for that,” Bieber told WSJ. “When people want to see you a certain way and they’ve made up a story about you in their minds, it’s not up to you to change that.”
Also during the interview, Bieber was asked whether shoppers were going to compare Rhode and Rare Beauty products, but was instructed not to respond by her publicist.

Naturally, the seeming reignition of a feud got the internet talking, to the point where a representative for Bieber was forced to deny that she was referring to Gomez in the interview.
The rep told Page Six that “none” of Bieber’s comments were “about Selena Gomez” directly, and added that she was referring to skincare brands in general with no mention of any specific person.
It marks the latest update in a feud narrative that has spanned more than a decade, with both Bieber and Gomez repeatedly trying to put the rumours of animosity to bed on multiple occasions.
In 2022, they basically broke the internet when they posed for pictures together at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures gala, and more recently, Bieber described the theories around their supposedly fractious relationship as “vile” and “disgusting”.
This year, however, eagle-eyed fans noticed that the pair no longer follow each other on Instagram, despite having done so since 2023.
What all of this amounts to is about as messy as how I apply moisturiser, but I’ll stop myself from comparing it to any other skincare brands.
