Newcastle SES crews responded to just four calls for assistance Friday evening after a heavy deluge and reports of hail across the region.
Acting deputy zone commander for the Hunter Ian Robinson said the region seemed to have been spared after the sudden thunderstorm which blanketed parts of Thornton in pebble-sized hail.
Crews were called to assist four homes with leaking roofs at Beresfield, Mr Robinson said, but area was spared any serious damage.
The Bureau of Meteorology reports up to around 19 millimetres of rain fell over the region with light winds temperatures dropping to as low as 14 degrees.
Conditions are looking partly cloudy in Newcastle on Saturday with a possible shower, clearing to a warm and mostly sunny long weekend with tops of 29 degrees on Monday.
