Hafta letters: Liberals on The Kashmir Files, assault of NL journalists, RSS feed issues

I am writing in response to a subscriber mail that said that he/she is tired of some liberal elites. I do have similar feelings. I would say I am more angry at the liberals than that subscriber. Take for example The Kashmir Files issue, I watched the film and I did not feel that it demonised Muslims. I feel I am in a minority in the liberal circles with this view. Much focus has been spent on commenting on the slogans in theatres. My impression, based on many reports that I have read, is that these incidents mostly happened in the NCR region. Places outside the NCR, I found few examples of such slogans.

Also, I found that the "rare sensible view", as according to your article on the slogans, was the overall opinion of the moviegoers. Liberals are conflating all moviegoers with the people that are shouting hate slogans who (according to reports) belong to some Hindu organisation.

I want to ask: In your opinion, are people who don't find this movie problematic, Islamophobic?

Hi NL team,

I'll keep it short. I recently watched Rana Ayyub's interview on a YouTube channel called Unscripted. She pointed out that she had asked all the major media houses to publish her tapes from her undercover work related to the riots in Gujarat. But no one agreed to the same.

Madhu Trehan at that time had tweeted, while she was working at Newslaundry, that she offered to publish such tapes during her interview with Rana Ayyub but she refused and that such an offer was on video record – a claim that Ayyub has refuted and something even I couldn't find on the video as well, at least on the one which is available on the Newslaundry channel. Would you mind clearing the air on it?

I have been following your work since the days of Clothesline and I truly believe in it, so some clarification would be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Kingshuk

I want you guys to develop an Android app for NL.

I'm based out of Sydney and have been a subscriber for approximately a year. I love the work you do, especially in the area of holding the news media to account. Absolutely essential work. Manisha is a total legend :).

I know people have been frustrated with the podcast app rollout, but I have a simple workaround that works pretty well. I simply download the podcast and then add it to my podcast app (I use Podcast Addict, but I'm sure it works on other apps). It allows the same playback functionality, and it really isn't that much of an effort. Keep up the great work!

Hey there!

While scrolling down the article of your latest episode of Hafta, the page suggested an option for free trial with the message, "You will be charged Rs 10,000 per month after that." It appears to be a typo of course, because your actual subscription rates are a lot lesser, the highest being Rs 10,000 per year.

I just wanted to bring this to your attention as this might severely discourage potential subscribers.

Cheers :)

Was nice to see that Vivek Agnihotri subscribes to Newslaundry, even if it is under the alias Pawan. Cannot imagine who else would defend Agnihotri of all people, at the expense of the BJP!

Hi team. I am very sorry for what Shivangi and Rounak went through on Sunday. I hope you find some time on Hafta to discuss the incident. My own concern is that, in the future, these attacks will become part of a strategy. After all, if journalists are consistently attacked while reporting on hate gatherings, they will be stopped by their seniors from attending such gatherings and this will allow these hate sellers to flourish unencumbered.

Also, since there are very few honest reporters on ground, such a strategy can be executed without much difficulty. Do you think this is already happening or are we far from such a situation? As always, I stand by NL.

Best,

Goonj

Hello to everyone at NL. I had let my subscription lapse, as your Hafta podcast was going from bad to worse. Your regular panel was phoning it in, literally and figuratively.

Also, it didn’t help that Manisha and Abhinandan interrupted the guest panellists repeatedly! Abhinandan, why are your questions longer than their replies?!! Why??

I have renewed my subscription for the NL reporters facing flak and fury just for doing their job. Also, Abhinandan looked too cute and fragile on NDTV with Ravish Ranjan Shukla. Sorry for the long mail. Stay strong. Stay true.

Hi team,

I recently renewed my membership for game changer level and my old RSS feed stopped working. When I try to copy the link of NL Hafta from my subscription page, it doesn't work either. I use Podcast Addict for my podcasts. Would you be able to help provide a link which would be compatible with the app please?

Many thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Abhishek Vatsa
