Hafta 349: Pandora Papers, Lakhimpur violence, Mumbai drug bust, Kashmir civilian killings
This week on NL Hafta, Abhinandan Sekhri, Raman Kirpal, Manisha Pande and Anand Vardhan are joined by Ritu Sarin, executive editor of the Indian Express.
They discuss the Pandora Papers leak, which revealed offshore investments by high-profile personalities. Ritu, who was part of the investigation, explains how it all came together, pointing out that the case became more interesting when unexpected names cropped up. “They may have 10 offshore companies but they only register two and then later, they are in such leaks,” she says.
On the Lakhimpur Kheri violence of October 3, the panel debates whether it was planned in advance or a “heat of the moment” incident. On the role of the media, Abhinandan says, “The Indian media has hit many low points in the past, but the justification they are giving now is a new low.”
The discussion also spans Aryan Khan’s arrest, the “targeted killings” in Kashmir, and more.
