Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi has authorized a team of advisers to sit with party leaders and political figures to come up with a vision capable of unifiying Yemeni parties under the country’s legitimate government to counter Houthi rebels, official sources said.
On Thursday, the President and his deputy Ali Mohsen Saleh held a meeting with leaders and representatives of the National Alliance of Political Parties (NAPP).
According to Yemen’s news agency, Saba, the session aimed to discuss the challenges Yemen has been facing and explore an inclusive national vision to deal with.
“Yemen has been facing major and multiple challenges in different spheres requiring collective and joint action,” Hadi said.
He emphasized the key role political parties should play to contribute to the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement and its transformation into a plan to restore the state.
The President made it clear that the agreement’s full implementation is key to reinstating the official authority and enhance national unity.
He also underlined the need for joining efforts to defend the country and protect the regime, national unity, democracy, outcomes of National Dialogue and the proposal of the Yemeni federal state.
The President authorized a team of his advisers to meet with the political parties to come up with a vision for the coming period.
Yemeni sources said that during the meeting, NAPP officials Abdulrahman al-Saqqaf and Rashad al-Alimi expressed support to Hadi and his efforts to unify Yemenis.
There have been recent calls for the unification of political parties, particularly the Yemeni Congregation for Reform and the wing led by the family of late president Ali Abdullah Saleh at the General People's Congress party.
Separately, Hadi met Thursday with the US ambassador to Yemen, Christopher Henzel.
The President affirmed the US-Yemeni relationship is deep and distinct at all levels, including the strategic alliance against interferences that destabilize Yemen and international shipping in Yemeni waters.
He also pointed to the government's efforts for the delivery of vital services and repayment of salaries in line with the Riyadh Agreement that the legitimacy signed with the Southern Transitional Council in November.
The US ambassador lauded Hadi's efforts to make the Agreement a success and ensure the government's resumption of services.
