Hackney shooting: Three charged after innocent bystander shot on London street

Three people have been charged after an “innocent bystander” was shot in Hackney in November 2020.

The charges range from attempted murder, to grievous bodily harm to possession of a firearm.

The victim, a 32-year-old woman, who has not been publicly named, remains in hospital with life-changing injuries after the shooting on Westgate Street.

At the time of the offense, the police stated that they believed the victim was an “innocent bystander”, caught in a gang crossfire.

The Metropolitan Police have stated that Akile Lee-Walton, 23, of Pemberton Road, Harringay, has been charged with attempted murder, grievous bodily harm with intent, conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He is due to appear before Thames Magistrates’ Court on 14 April. 

Additionally, Reuel Briscoe, 28, of HMP Belmarsh, has been charged with conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. Jeremiah Briscoe, 24, of HMP Thameside, faces the same charges.

Authorities arrived at the scene at around 9 pm on 22 November, when paramedics battled to save the woman’s life and administered CPR.
