A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a London police officer during an anti-gang raid on a house in Haggerston.
Tyrone Benjamin Henry, of Phoenix Close, was charged on Friday with attempted murder, the possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and being prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
The 31-year-old is due to appear in custody at Thames Magistrates Court on Saturday.
An unidentified Metropolitan police officer was shot during a firearms raid conducted by officers from the Met's Specialist Firearms Command and Trident Area Crime Command on a home off Scriven Street in Hackney at around 12.45pm on Thursday earlier this week.
The Trident Area Crime Command group is responsible for tackling gang violence and crime in the capital.
A Met police spokesperson confirmed the officer had been taken to hospital following the raid and was now in a “stable” condition.
Comissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe praised the officer for showing “great bravery”.
“His colleagues have described him as ‘exceptional’ and ‘professional’. He has been that and more,” he told the Hackney Gazette on Thursday.
