Hackney crash: Woman dies after being hit by lorry in north-east London

Emergency services: An ambulance and fire engine at the scene of the crash

A woman has died after she was hit by a lorry on a busy road in north-east London.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were scrambled to Mare Street in Hackney shortly before 10.30am on Thursday.

The female pedestrian was struck at the junction with Grayham Road. She was found in a critical condition following a collision with a HGV, police said.

Paramedics battled to save her but she was was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Police are in the process of informing her next of kin.

“A post-mortem examination will be held in due course. Formal identification awaits.

“The driver involved stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries. No arrests have been made.”

The road was cordoned off while a police investigation took place.
