If you thought your weekend was fried, be thankful you’re not the beloved, friendly, short-king Elmo, who unfortunately had his X account hacked. As a result of the security breach, his page was overrun with troll posts towards the Jewish community and US President Donald Trump.
Yep, that’s right. If you thought the folks of Sesame Street were safe from internet mayhem, you thought wrong!
On Sunday (local time), Elmo‘s X account — which boasts more than 647,000 followers and a verification badge — was hacked, leading to a series of ruthless posts made under his name.

Per the Daily Mail, which grabbed screenshots of the posts before they were wiped from the monster’s social media profile, some of the tweets directed hate and harm towards the Jewish community and described Donald Trump as “Netanyahu‘s puppet”.
“RELEASE THE FILES @realDonaldTrump,” one of the hacked tweets read alongside an allegation towards the US President-elect.
It was also reported that some of the hacked posts were promoting some kind of cryptocurrency.
The internet reacts to Elmo’s hacked tweets
Before the hacker’s tirade could end, many folks on X commented on the brutality behind Elmo’s words, with one person describing it as “diabolical”.

Thankfully, the posts have since been removed from Elmo’s account, with a spokesperson for Sesame Workshop — the nonprofit organisation behind Sesame Street — confirming that all those nasty messages were from a hacker.
“Elmo’s X account was compromised today by an unknown hacker who posted disgusting messages, including antisemitic and racist posts,” the spokesperson told The New York Times.
“We are working to restore full control of the account.”
This isn’t the first time the Elmo X account has caused an online frenzy. Back in 2024, the friendly, red monster opened a can of worms after posting, “Elmo is just checking in! How is everybody doing?”.
And with the state of the world in 2024 — which is like 2025 but lighter — you could imagine the horrific responses.
AYIYIYI, someone please protect this Sesame Street king.
