(Picture: PA Wire)Hackers suspected of being behind a mass extortion attack that affected hundreds of companies worldwide want $70 million to restore the data they are holding ransom.
The demand was posted on a dark web blog used by the REvil cybercrime gang, a Russia-linked group counted among the world’s most prolific extortionists.
The attack saw the gang break into Kaseya, a Miami-based information technology firm, and used their access to breach some of its clients’ networks, which set off a chain reaction that quickly locked the computers of hundreds of firms worldwide.
