Hackers bring down Tesco's website and app

Hackers are confirmed to be responsible for Tesco's website and app going down.

Shoppers have been unable to access services since yesterday and now the supermarket giant has said that an attempt was made to 'interfere' with its systems.

The disruption is continuing into today as the company frantically tries to get it up and running again. However, a spokesman said there was "no reason" to believe that customer data had been compromised.

Tesco has been inundated with anxious customers unable to arrange deliveries or make changes to their orders.

A Tesco spokesman told The Mirror this morning: “Since yesterday, we’ve been experiencing disruption to our online grocery website and app. An attempt was made to interfere with our systems which has caused problems with the search function on the site. We’re working hard to fully restore all services and apologise for the inconvenience.

"There is no reason to believe that this issue impacts customer data and we continue to take ongoing action to make sure all data stays safe.”

Shoppers first reported problems attempting to access the site and app yesterday, and thousands of customers continue to report problems to DownDetector, which monitors website outages.
