Hacienda to celebrate 40 years with Happy Mondays, Orbital and 808 State

The Hacienda is to celebrate its 40th anniversary with a blow-out show at the Warehouse Project, with Manc legends the Happy Mondays headlining. They’ll be joined by rave pioneers Orbital, 808 State, Inner City, CeCe Rogers, K Klass and the House Gospel Choir, who will all perform live.

Joining them on the bill will be a host of DJs who have been along on the journey with the feted club from the beginning, including Kerri Chandler, David Morales, Kenny Dope, Todd Terry, Marshall Jefferson, Graeme Park, Greg Wilson, A Guy Called Gerald, DJ Pierre, DJ Paulette, Jon Dasilva, Tom Wainwright, Justin Robertson, Allister Whitehead, Mark XTC, Russ and Chad Jackson.

The party will happen on November 12, with tickets - at £39.50 plus a booking fee - going on sale at 10am on July 29. You can grab them here.

The Hacienda first opened on Whitworth Street in 1982, as an extension of Factory Records.

Moving in to a former yacht showroom, and designed by Ben Kelly, the club later became a beacon for the emerging rave scene, hosting nights like Nude and pioneering gay night Flesh. It would also host pivotal gigs from the likes of Madonna, who played her first UK show there, Primal Scream, Stone Roses, James, The Fall, The Smiths, Pet Shop Boys and, of course, New Order, who were part owners.

It closed its doors for good in June 1997, and was developed into apartments. The club threw another party in May this year, on the club’s actual birthday, in the underground car park of the Hacienda flats.
